The Ultimate Wedding Day Makeup Guide

Without a doubt, the most fun part of wedding planning for me (besides picking out our cake!) was deciding what makeup I was going to wear. I became obsessed with researching to find makeup that not only would last all night, but also look natural in person. If you’re like me and hate how makeup artists make you look 99% of the time, then don’t be afraid to do your makeup yourself! You know what you like best and what you can live with being on your face in pictures forever.

I stuck to the French rule of thumb that less is more. While a heavy contour/dark smoky-eye look can be very pretty in pictures, it’s extremely easy to over do it and look like a clown in person. I didn’t feel like risking it, and actually didn’t even wear any bronzer on the big day.

But no matter what look you’re going for, these products are awesome choices that will last throughout all the kissing, tears, and dancing!

Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear

Why?: This cult-classic definitely lives up to its reputation as one of the best foundations around! While it smells a bit like nail polish, it quickly goes away and makes your skin look perfect without looking like a mask. Just make sure you moisturize plenty before you apply it if you have dry or even combo skin! My skin is more on the oily side and this stuff will suck all the moisture out of it if I skip this step. BUT Double Wear will not budge! Usually my makeup gets all over Worsham’s face, but it held up through all of our kissing pictures and even some tears when I read his letter to me before the ceremony. Also, it’s the only foundation on earth that is a nearly perfect match for my skin tone. French brands know how to do colors! If you’re paler than I am, you might have trouble finding a shade, but it’s definitely worth a look. I got a sample from Dillard’s since I knew I’d only use it for special occasions, and it lasted over a month! For reference, I’m the second palest shade which is 1N1.

Concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

Why?: It’s really cheap and really good! It makes your under eyes look more youthful and melts easily into your skin. You can’t go wrong with any concealer from Maybelline though honestly. Another one of my faves is their Better Skin concealer!

Blush: NARS Orgasm or Bobbi Brown Pale Pink

Why?: These blushes have serious staying power and color payoff without making you look like a clown! Orgasm and Pale Pink are my personal favorites, but both brands have a ton of different colors for any skin tone. I went with Bobbi on the day of and it didn’t disappoint.

Powder: BareMinerals Original Foundation

Why?: I’ve used BareMinerals since middle school and can’t seem to stop! While I don’t like to wear their mineral foundation alone, it makes any foundation look a million times better when you use it as a setting powder. I know some people worry about flashback because of the SPF 15 in it, but I didn’t have a problem with that.

Eyeshadow Primer: Smashbox 24 Hour or Urban Decay Primer Potion

Why?: They keep the creases away! I didn’t have any eyeshadow primer on the day of so I borrowed one of my bridesmaids’ Smashbox. It did a great job! I own Urban Decay’s Anti-Aging Primer Potion now though and I love it. It’s a bit more moisturizing and doesn’t tug at your eyelids.

Eyeshadow: Pretty much any palette from Urban Decay

Why?: All the colors! You can literally create any look under the sun with one of UD’s famous Naked palettes (Naked 3 is my fave!). Don’t feel like spending $54? Try their Naked 1 or Naked 2 Basics palettes, which offer everything you need for a natural or dark smoky eye for only $29. They also have great colors for filling in your brows.

Highlighter: Gressa Eye Tint in Aureo

Why?: Gressa is one of my all-time favorite brands, and it’s 100 percent organic! Their foundation is pretty much the best thing on earth (more on that another time), but it transfers easily so I had to go with Estee. Anyway, my second favorite thing from them is their eye tint in Aureo, which is a pretty champagne color! I used it to highlight my inner corner, brow bones, and cheek bones.

Bronzer: Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil

Why?: I didn’t wear any bronzer, but if I had owned it at the time I would have worn Too Faced’s! Their Milk Chocolate Soleil bronzer is perfect for pale skin tones because it doesn’t have any muddy/red undertones. They also make darker shades!  Bonus: it kind of smells like chocolate.

False Eyelashes: Eylure

Why?: They have a crap ton of different options and they’re easy to find (check out Target or Ulta). They stayed on well and looked very pretty! I went with the lengthening ones to help make my eyes pop.

Mascara: Anything waterproof from Maybelline

Why?: I ride-or-die by Maybelline mascara. My ultimate go-to is Falsies! I also love Lash Stiletto for more drama and Full N Soft for a more natural look. Whatever you go with, just make sure it’s waterproof!

Eyeliner: Wet N Wild Crème Liner

Why?: It’s dirt cheap, stays put, and is cruelty-free. What more could you ask for?

Brows: Benefit Gimme Brow

Why?: Gimme Brow is LIFE! It’s super easy to use, takes 3 seconds, and makes your brows look full yet natural. If you’re afraid it will look too dramatic, just buy a lighter color. I go with 1, even though it’s for blondes, and it matches perfectly.

Lips: BareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lipstick

Why?: I went with LipSense on the big day and while I did love the color, it dried out my lips by the end of the night. I think the problem was that I got nervous and put way too much on, but who has time to think about that before their wedding? Instead I’d recommend the Gen Nude Liquid Lipstick because 1) you can’t go wrong with nude shades, 2) it doesn’t dry out your lips, and 3) the color Swag is probably my fave lip color ever. While it doesn’t last quite as long and takes several minutes to dry down, it’s totally worth it in my opinion.

Happy makeup hunting! What other long-lasting products do you love?
