Essential Oils 101: Starter Kit Oils

starter kit oils

One of the best deals that Young Living offers is their premium starter kit! You get your choice of diffuser, 11 full size essential oils, and a bunch of samples for $160. It’s a huge savings when you consider that just buying those 11 oils by themselves would easily run you over $200. Here’s what I love about each of the oils included in the starter kit:

Lavender – Lavender is the OG of essential oils. Everyone needs it and everyone loves it! It’s one of my faves to put in my bath, on pillows, in my mascara (it helps condition your lashes), and on cuts/bruises.

Peppermint – Peppermint is a staple in my purse! It comes with me everywhere because of how versatile it is. Forgot to brush your teeth? Peppermint. Have a headache? Put some peppermint on your forehead, or if you don’t want to mess up your make up then put it on your neck and behind your ears. Feeling dizzy? Put a drop in your water. Peppermint is the ultimate ride-or-die.

Lemon – Lemon is another great one! If your allergies are bothering you, diffuse it with lavender and peppermint. I love to put it in my water too. It’s weird because I hate actual lemons in my water, but lemon oil tastes magical to me – probably because it’s a ton of lemons in one drop. It’s great for immune support since it’s high in vitamin C. If I feel like I might be getting sick, I take a few drops of lemon and a few drops of thieves in a capsule.

Copaiba – Copaiba is one of my faves for pain, especially when it’s that time of the month. I’ll mix it with PanAway to help ease cramps/back pain until the Midol kicks in.

Frankincense – When in doubt, use frankincense. It’s a sacred oil for a reason! It’s great for cuts, scars, acne, insect bites, wrinkles, digestion, meditation, and a million other things. I use it the most on scars and in homemade face masks (2 tablespoons bentonite clay & apple cider vinegar with 2 drops of frankincense or manuka oil).

Thieves – Thieves is the best for disinfecting. Young Living makes an entire thieves line (cleaner, laundry detergent, mints, hand sanitizer, etc.) that’s amazing. When it comes to straight thieves oil, I like to diffuse it at work when everyone is getting sick. You can also use it with some lemon oil to mix up a household cleaner. I’ll usually just fill up the sink with hot water, a tiny bit of soap, several drops of thieves, and several drops of lemon. It’s great for mopping! It contains a mix of clove, lemon peel, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary oil.

Purification – Pet odor? Ratchet cigarette smell? Brussel sprouts? Diffusing purification will get rid of it in no time. Purification is a blend of citronella, rosemary, lemongrass, tea tree, lavandin, and myrtle oil.

R.C. – R.C. is perfect for when you have a nasty cold or the flu. It’s like the Vicks Vapor Rub of the organic world thanks to all the eucalyptus oils in it (globulus, radiata, and citriodora). It also contains myrtle, marjoram, pine, lavender, cypress, black spruce, and peppermint.

DiGize – To be honest, DiGize is one I haven’t tried yet! It wasn’t included in the starter kit years ago when I first ordered mine. After reading about it though, I’ll definitely be adding it to my order next time. It’s supposed to be good for heartburn, bloating, cramps, nausea, and digestive problems. DiGize contains tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, and patchouli.

PanAway – PanAway is one of my favorite YL oils period. Nothing gets rid of pain quite like it! Just be sure to use a carrier oil unless you like the burning sensation like I do (I’d rather feel the burn than actual pain any day). It’s a mix of wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, and peppermint.

Stress Away – Stress Away probably smells the best out of all of the starter kit oils! It’s good to diffuse on nights when you can’t sleep or to add to your bath. It’s made up of copaiba, lime, cedarwood, vanilla, ocotea, and lavender.
