Activities for Social Distancing

This time last week, I had never heard the phrase “social distancing” in my life. As an introvert, the concept of never leaving my house is always appealing, but now I have a legit reason to indulge in my hermit ways. Obviously, a deadly virus isn’t the reason anyone wanted, but here we are. While it’s easy to get sucked into a fear spiral and have a cute emotional breakdown (hi!), it’s also a great time to reconnect with what matters. Or a great time to do mindless activities to chill out. Either one, really.

Here are some random activities to do while you’re living that quarantine life!

RECONNECT: The biggest blessing of this whole ordeal is that we get to reconnect to the people who matter to us. Many companies are letting their employees telework until things get better, and that means more time at home with our loved ones. Getting to be at home all day with my husband and our fur children is basically my dream. Furry coworkers are the best coworkers, after all. All this social distancing also means you have more time to talk to friends and family. Text someone you haven’t talked to in a while!

CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES: For the love of God, clean your makeup brushes while you have all this time off. You’ve probably cleaned everything else at this point anyway! Don’t have brush cleaner? Dr. Bronner’s or Dawn do the job well. I can’t tell you the last time I used an actual brush cleaner.

JOURNAL: There has literally never been a better time to journal. It’s important to get your emotions out. Plus, think about it, we are living through a future history class right now. You’re going to want to remember it, even if right now it doesn’t seem like it. It’s a weirdly important time. Even a dream journal could be really useful right now. I don’t know about you, but I feel like my dreams have been more vivid and “message-y” this week than usual. Looking up what your dreams mean is a fun morning activity too.

TAROT: Sick of playing random board games? Bust out a tarot deck and see what the cards hold for you. I’m no tarot expert, but it’s fun and usually insightful!

STUDY SOMETHING YOU LOVE: What’s that thing you love, but don’t get to spend enough time learning about? For me, that’s astrology! I plan to cozy up with Jessica Lanyadoo’s new book, Astrology for Real Relationships, and really dive deep. I’ve been obsessed with astrology and the stars in general since I was little, so I’m excited to have time to learn more! Worsham has been super into leather making lately, so he’s been watching lots of videos and making things. He’s getting really good at it! As I write this, he’s making me a keychain out of my ancient Louis Vuitton from high school.

WORK OUT: This is obvious, but everyone should keep working out even at home. My favorite Youtube workout channels are Yoga with Adriene and Tone It Up! You can also get creative with little workouts throughout the day. Earlier this week, I put a “booty band” around my ankles and walked around the house like that any time I got up for a break from work. Easy, but definitely effective.

GARDEN: It’s easy to lose all track of time and seasons at this point, but it is spring after all. If we’re going to be at home, we might as well be planting things to make our backyards prettier (just see what’s on Amazon). Bonus points if you order a pollinator wildflower blend to help the bees and butterflies! We planted some in our side yard the other day, and I can’t wait to see them start to bloom.

SPA NIGHT: You already know. Slather yourself in essential oils and pop into an Epsom salt bath for a while. I hear the virus hates heat, so all the more reason to take a scalding bath, you know? I can’t even tell if I’m being sarcastic or not at this point. It’s fine! Jade roll your face, put coconut oil in your hair, do a mask, pluck your eyebrows, whatever. Do all of it! Give your skin a break from makeup and exist in your natural state.

PODCAST & POSHMARK: Tired of all the Netflix and chill already? Listen to a podcast and go through your closet. List everything you don’t want anymore on Poshmark. You might as well make a little extra money right now, am I right?
