I love animals. All of them! Not just my pets. I wave at cows when I drive by them, say hello to the frogs in our backyard, and am obsessed with basically any animal I lay eyes on. I mean, who isn’t?
No, I’m not fully vegetarian, but I hardly ever eat meat. Not only do I just not really like meat that much, but I start overthinking it and get sad. One time I tried to cook bacon and started crying before I could even open the package. I realize there are people who need to eat meat sometimes for health reasons, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still help in other ways. One aspect of saving animals that we don’t always think about is the use of leather in fashion.
It probably sounds stupid, but I never really thought about the fact that leather was from an animal. It’s something you know if you really stop to think about it, but the term “leather” is just so common in our society that it’s easy to forget what it actually is. Over the past year, I’ve made a conscious decision not to purchase any more leather items…especially when it comes to handbags (my personal obsession!). So what’s a handbag-obsessed, animal lover to do, you ask?
This question led me to the beautiful vegan designer Angela Roi. I first heard about her bags from one of my favorite vloggers – Wife Life. Founded in 2013, Angela Roi set out to show that you can have gorgeous faux leather pieces without the cruelty – a win-win for everyone involved. Faux leather gets a bad rep from cheaper stores who don’t take the time to make sure the product is of the highest quality possible. But trust me, Angela Roi looks just like real leather!
I personally own the Barton Duffle Tote in Nude Blue. Not only is it beautiful and spacious, it’s also one of the most comfortable purses that I own. The wide strap keeps it from pulling on my shoulders, which I something I can’t put a price on when I’m wandering through Target for hours. There’s nothing worse than an uncomfortable purse strap (except for an uncomfortable bra strap, but what can you do?).
I also recently purchased the Zuri Card Pouch for OU game days, and it’s so pretty! I can’t wait to try it out at the opening game next week. I mentioned wanting a Louis Vuitton key pouch for my birthday, but ultimately decided against it for this gem.
Anyway, if you’re wanting to ditch your leather goods, definitely check them out! I plan on continuing to expand my collection from them. What are your favorite vegan fashion brands?
